It is scientific fact that humans and apes have an ancestry. "Humans do belong to the same taxonomic family as the great apes, like gorillas. It is also true that the closest known living relative to Homo sapiens is the chimpanzee. However, this does not mean humans "evolved from monkeys". We share a common ancestor that is ape-like with Old World Monkeys and have very little connection to New World Monkeys, which branched off the phylogenetic tree nearly 40 million years ago."
For people like Todd Akin and his ilk who strive to be like the Taliban and legislate their holy book, evolution offers their ideology many contradictions. Do notice I said "their ideology" and not their religion. Religion has absolutely nothing to do with any of this. Controlling people, preserving what they believe to be a patriarchal society and keeping power vested in the hands of elite elderly clerics and keeping us on path to the 15th century is really what Todd Akin means when he says there's no science behind evolution.
Just like when Republicans toss aside study after study that proves their budget math simply does not add up. They do the exact same thing when it comes to anything that might contradict their basic belief they are led by God to rule America. If it doesn't fit into their Fantasy World narrative, it simply gets tossed aside, labeled liberal propaganda and banned from ever being mentioned again.
