Who Could have Predicted It?...spewing oil edition
Just throw me in the "shouldn't have listened to Grand right wing ideas" group once again. I don't know why I keep making this stupid mistake but it seems to be a condition I have. I should know better. Iraq should have been a lesson for all of us.
In March I reiterated my support for more offshore drilling; a position the Obama administration used to maneuver itself while anticipating the upcoming summer debates. But this isn't about the White House. It's about me. After having supported more drilling both offshore and onshore for years now, I gotta admit it was mainly because of greed to bring down oil prices. I want cheaper gas. It's that simple. I rarely considered the environmental consequences. I knew they existed but I didn't care. I was wrong.
It's not worth it. The environmental affects are not worth the risk. Yes the associated catastrophes are rare, but when they happen it puts it all in perspective. And it will happen again, there's no denying that. Our only option is to move away from oil energy and to do so as soon as possible. Given what's happened off the coast of Louisiana, I can no longer support more drilling just so I can get cheaper gas and oil companies can get richer and richer and thus donate to Republican campaigns and even in some circumstances put one of their own in the White House.
I hope I have finally learned my lesson.
