Here is the most simplest of ways I can put my position on the Republican Tea Bagger connection.
After reading this lengthy, often repetitive, NY Times article on how factional the tea baggers are, it struck me that it's no different than having a Young Republicans club. Or a Lincoln Dinner. Or a College Republicans registered on a college campus. They are all small pockets of a larger order. No one goes out of their way to distinguish the GOP from any of that. My point is, there is no doubt in my mind if a Republican were president that none of this would be happening. There would not be a single mention of tea baggers and freedom fighting patriots at all.
Why?
Because Fox News would not be promoting them if the GOP still controlled the White House, and that in itself is huge! And just like the 8 years of Bush, Tea Baggers didn't care one bit what a Republican did. Sure they got disappointed that Bush grew government and spent like he was on one of his drunken nights at a frat house. That's why they created their alternative reality to deal with that stuff. They black it out and pretend it never happened. Guarantee it, there would be no Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity riling up the Republican base with crazy conspiracy theories. There would be no Republican Members of Congress organizing protests against the government calling for Revolution! There wouldn't be any Republican Members going on Fox News calling the president a socialist. None of that would be happening if John McCain had won the election.
In it's most basic form, this is about who is in charge of the White House. It's either a Republican or an enemy. There's no in-between and there is no doubt in my mind none of this would be happening if Repubs were still in charge.
