The cost of health care is rising. Federal spending is soaring. We're piling huge debt on our children. And families and small businesses are struggling through a jobless recovery with more than 2.4 million private sector jobs lost since February.I don't even know if that 2.4 million number is true, sounds high but that's not my point. Check out the reference to February, however.
The recession didn't just begin in February 2009. It didn't start after Obama took office. But that's just want Republicans want people to believe. Reality is quite different actually. The recession mixed with massive job losses began in 2007. It's been going on for almost 19 months. In 2008 the economy lost 2.6 million jobs-- the most since the end of WWII. If you look at it in terms of job losses versus past recessions, you see this is very bad.
But it didn't just start in February like the GOP alluded to the other night. It began well under a Republican administration. It was a two-term administration that saw the greatest loss of jobs since the Great Depression. Things were already in a terrible situation long before February. Invoking the Regretted History Law doesn't change reality.
