Glenn Beck said on his radio show Monday that the event was the "largest march on Washington ever." Now c'mon. There is no way that's true. Apparently the largest crowd ever assembled in the world, quietly coasted into DC, didn't cause any traffic congestion, didn't flood the Metro system, didn't require any extra law enforcement officials, and DCists didn't have to leave town for the weekend to avoid the mad-rush of people (a very telling sign actually).
I spoke to a friend last night that lives in DC. He said he walked right up to the Metro and rode it to Foggy Bottom with no trouble at all. Walked a couple blocks down Pennsylvania and got a coffee at Starbucks without waiting in line. The city wasn't crowded or impassable. The largest march ever would have congested the city to the max.
The lengths the right wing is going to exaggerate crowd size is emblematic of how they do everything. As Little Green Footballs points out, Republicans have been using quotes about Obama's inauguration to justify their lies.
The best, though, has to be this post by right wing nut job Pam Geller. The third picture she posts to tout crowd size in the millions is from a rally over ten years ago. It wasn't from the 9/12 event. They are a crazy people. I don't think there is a sane one in the bunch. This is so pathetic I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Dozens - if not hundreds - of right wing blogs are running with this quote, portraying it as a statement about the tea party held last weekend: 'We believe it is the largest event held in Washington, D.C., ever.'
The quote is from January. The National Park Service spokesman was talking about Barack Obama's inauguration.
Thug it out with me now...
We need tanks and hummers, not hybrid cars!
We need honest politicians, not communist czars!
USA, not the USSR.
We need more Ann Coulter and less Bill Maher.
