As we get ready to say goodbye to the old and welcome in the new, we all should take a second to reflect on the great and vast powers Barack Obama will inherit when he takes office on Jan. 20th.
-- The power to unilaterally invade and occupy any nation in the world.
-- The power to declare a rhetorical war without end including but not limited to: a war with no fronts, no boundaries, no opposing army, and -- most ominously -- no knowable "victory."
-- The power to lock up in a military concentration camp any person he deems a threat to our Republic.
-- The vested power that during wartime any action the president takes, including locking up anyone without trial, is perfectly legal.
-- The power to issue thousands of signing statements that directly remove the president from any and every law.
-- The power to spy on Americans without a warrant.
-- The power to torture those he deems a threat to the Republic.
-- And finally, the assurance that answering to the public is not a duty of the executive whose powers are nearly dictatorial during time of war.
