I can't believe I'm living in an America that wants to argue the importance--the almighty necessity-- to occupy foreign territory. In the simplest of terms, the election between Obama and McCain is about whether or not America should be an occupying power. I can't help but think the doctrine the Republican Party has thrusted upon this country goes against the very fabric of our existence. We can no more occupy Iraq than we ourselves want to be occupied.Al-Rubaie spoke to reporters after briefing Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in Najaf on the progress of the government's security efforts and the talks.
"Our stance in the negotiations underway with the American side will be strong ... We will not accept any memorandum of understanding that doesn't have specific dates to withdraw foreign forces from Iraq," al-Rubaie said.

Newsflash: Iraq Doesn't Want to be Occupied

Again today an Iraqi government official reiterated that the country wants a specific timetable set for when American troops will leave his country.
