McCain gives us his lowdown to make America great...again. He's pledging to balance the budget by the end of his first term. How does he expect to do this? Win the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and use the savings this would generate to pay down the deficit.
First thing that jumps out at me is McCain is admitting the wars are having a negative effect on our economy. I thought the glorious war in Iraq would boost our economy, cut oil prices and pretty much pay for itself through oil revenue. Any grade school student would know that a trillion dollar war undoubtedly would have an adverse effect on the economy but the Bush administration has yet to admit that. McSame admitting ending the wars would help the economy is essentially admitting just how much of a colossal mistake it was to invade Iraq in the first place.
Second thing is wouldn't that mean at least five more years of war in Iraq? That would make the war 10 years long. Is this really what the American people want? How about we end the wars sooner than five more years and start fixing the economy now?
Thirdly, where's the plan? If I'm not mistaken McCain didn't submit a proposal with numbers and fancy graphs, he just said he would do it. There's no blueprint to even go by. It's take him at his word and don't ask questions. There's nothing to give the press. There's not even an estimation of what a possibly balanced budget would look like. How does this guy get away with this? He just magically says he's going to end the war in 2013 and balance the budget. No plan, nothing to critique, it's just this is what I'm going to do and take my word that I'll do it. We've already had 8 years of empty Republican promises of peace of prosperity. We can't do four more.
